Introduce the names of the animals, focussing on pronunciation. Elicit the English. The animals are: el lobo, el lince (el lince iberico with accent in the e of iberico), el mono, el oso, el buitre, la serpiente.

5 ¿Dónde está Perú? ¿Y España?
Map of the world to show pupils where Spain and Peru are. Get a pupil to come to the front. Teacher could say common things that Peru and Spain have in common. Like the fact they both speak Spanish. It would also be a good idea to ask pupils for other countries where they speak Spanish and show them on the map.

6 ¿Dónde viven estos animales?
Teacher could start pointing at how Spain and Peru are divided by “provincias” and showing where is the capital of both countries (Madrid and Lima). Maps of Peru and Spain. Pupils say in Spanish where the various animals live. The pictures of the animals appear on the correct country by clicking so that students can elect to say the ones they know and there is no set order.

7 oso ¡A pensar! llama lobo avestruz condor buitre lince
conejillo de indias serpiente mono vicuña alpaca Masculino Femenino Names of all the animals in the top box. Remind pupils of the words for a/the and that there is gender in Spanish. Ask them to spot the ones that are obvious – (a at end = feminine, o at end = masculine etc..) the only ones they really need to check here are the ones ending in e – you could elicit this whole class or put them into pairs with dictionaries.

8 el/un oso ¡A pensar! la/una llama el/un lobo el/un avestruz
el/un condor el/un buitre la/una llama el/un lince el/un oso el/un conejillo de indias la/una serpiente el/un mono la/una vicuña la/una alpaca Masculino Femenino This is a much more straightforward reinforcement activity and perhaps could be used at the same time as the other slide (8) with certain pupils if you have grouped according to ability? Names of all the animals in the top box. Put them in the right column depending whether they are masculine or feminine. Work to be done in exercise book. ( 6 -8 minutes). Remind them of clues, how are they going to handle this activity. It could be worth to explain the difference between “el/la” and “un/una”.

9 A corregir Masculino Femenino el/un lobo la/una llama el/un avestruz
la/una serpiente el/un buitre la/una alpaca el/un lince la/una vicuña el/un conejillo de indias el/un oso el/un mono el/un cóndor Rather than just simply correcting answers you could reinforce their ability to switch quickly between ‘the’ and ‘a’ by calling out ‘a snake’ , ‘the wolf’ etc..Good for pronunciation reinforcement too.
