* = MUST MATCH IN GENDER  In Spanish, they use a similar format (called the short form) to express possession.   My = mi(s)  Our = nuestro(s)/nuestra(s)*  Your (informal) = tu(s) [no accent]  Y’all’s (SP) = vuestro(s)/vuestra(s)*  His/her/your (formal) = su(s)  Their/you all’s = su(s) These are placed BEFORE the noun. ex. My desk  mi escritorio

En español… In SPANISH, the ‘s that we use in English does not exist to show possession! INSTEAD, we use the following formula: the thing being owned + de + the person who owns it Ejemplos: Shayla’s cat = el gato de Shayla Brian’s umbrella= el paraguas de Brian Ms. Green´s class = la clase de Señorita Verde

9 Confusiones potenciales
Since the form su can mean 7 different things: his, her, its, your, their (masc./fem.), your (pl.) If there is confusion, the owner can be identified by asking who the item belongs to: ¿De quién? And responded with the “de” form introduced on the previous slide Ejemplo: Es su lápiz. (It is her pencil.) -¿De quién? (Of whom?-Whose pencil?) De María. (of María. – María´s pencil.)
