2 Del is a conjunction of the words de & el
Del is a conjunction of the words de & el. It means “from the” and/or “of the.” Since the majority of prepositional phrases end in the word “de,” we use del a lot when something is located next to, above, below, on top of, underneath, far from etc…a masculine noun. The plane is above the earth. Dorotea está sobre del arco iris. Dorothy is over the rainbow. La bandera está a la derecha del reloj. The flag is located to the right of the clock. Yo estoy enfrente del escritorio. I am located in front of the desk.

5 HAY-there is, there are Yes, hay is a verb form!
Just plug it in to the sentence when you want to say “there is a mouse in my backpack” or “there are 300 elephants in the zoo.” Let’s look at some examples on the next slide:

6 Hay tres bolígrafos en mi mochila.
There are three pens in my backpack. Hay unos árboles afuera de mi casa. There are some trees outside of my house. Hay un estudiante feo en la clase. There is an ugly student in the class. Hay un sacapuntas al lado de la puerta. There is a pencil sharpener next to the door. Hay treinta estudiantes en la clase. There are thirty students in class. Hay una grapadora en el escritorio. There is a stapler on the desk. A la izquierda del escritorio hay una silla. To the left of the desk there is a chair.
