Present Tense Verbs -er and -ir

Prior Knowledge You already know that Spanish verbs end in – ar, -er, or –ir. Verbs not yet conjugated are called infinitves Verbs are conjugated to agree with the subject. There are 6 forms for each conjugated verb. Subject pronouns can assist in choosing the correct conjugation.

Subject Pronoun Review
Yo = I Nosotros = We Tu = You (fam.) Vosotros = You (fam. pl.) Ud. = You (form.) Ustedes = You (form. pl.) El = He, it Ellos = They (m) Ella = She, it Ellas = They (f)

Conjugation Review (-ar verbs)
Drop the infinitive ending. Find the correct ending that agrees with the subject. Add the ending to the stem. Ejemplos Yo hablo dos idiomas. I speak two languages. Los chicos bailan en el club. The boys dance in the club. Mi mama monta en bicicleta. My mother rides her bike.

Conjugating –er and –ir Verbs
Like with –ar verbs, you drop the infinitive ending. Choose the correct ending based on the subject. Add the ending the the stem. -er and –ir Verb endings are the same for al forms except nosotros and vosotros.

Comer – to eat Yo como. Nosotros comemos. Tu comes. Vosotros comeis.
Ud. come. Uds. comen. El come. Ellos comen. Ella come. Ellas comen.

Compartir – to share Yo comparto. Nosotros compartimos. Tu compartes.
Vosotros compartis. Ud. comparte. Uds. comparte. El camparte Ellos comparten. Ella comparte. Ellas comparten.
