Mil when not used in counting
“Mil” (1,000) has a plural form when not used in counting. Example: Miles de gatos (Thousands of cats)

Numbers as adjectives Numbers when used as adjectives, must agree with the nouns they modify. Example: doscientos = 200 doscientas gatas = 200 (female) cats

Talking about the year (the year) (1,000) (900) (98)
When talking about the year in Spanish, you simply say the whole number in Spanish. Example: 1998 = el año mil novecientos noventa y ocho (the year) (1,000) (900) (98)
