The conditional in Spanish
El condicional The conditional in Spanish
5
En general: “Frequently, the conditional is used to express probability, possibility, wonder or conjecture, and is usually translated as would, could, must have or probably.” (studyspanish.com) “Note: when "would" is used in the sense of a repeated action in the past, the imperfect is used.” studyspanish.com
6
REMEMBER: As a child, he would eat candy every day.
When we use “would” to talk about a repeated action in the past, the imperfect is needed, not the conditional. Ejemplos: As a child, he would eat candy every day. De niño él comía dulces todos los días We would eat breakfast together on Saturdays. Nosotros desayunábamos juntos los sábados.
