pág. 1/2 OBJECTIVOS: TLW breakdown and analyze the proper usage of the conditional in spoken and written forms. TLW express actions that are based on probability, possibility, wonder, or conjecture. The conditional is used to express actions that would, could, should, must have, or probably will happen. *THERE ARE NO STEM-CHANGES IN THE CONDITIONAL TENSE!* 2. There is only ONE SET OF ENDINGS in the conditional for ALL verbs; -ar, -er, and –ir. Below are the endings for the conditional. Conditional -ar, -er, & -ir verb endings: yo-ía tú- ías *La tercera persona singular*: él, ella, Ud.-ía nosotros-íamos *La tercera persona plural*: ellos, ellas, Uds.-ían *ANOTA* The conditional is similar to the future tense. They have the same irregulars, and they both have 1 set of endings! 3. In order to form the conditional, follow this 1 step: a. take the WHOLE infinitive and add the appropriate ending. 5. There are 12 irregulars in the conditional. They each have an IRREGULAR STEM: 1. caber-to fit: cabr valer-to be worth: valdr- 2. decir-to say/to tell: dir venir-to come: vendr- 3. hacer-to do/to make: har- 4. haber-to have (aux.): habr- 5. poder-can/to be able: podr- 6. poner-to put/to place: pondr- 7. querer-to love/to want: querr- 8. saber-to know (fact/info.): sabr- 9. salir-to leave/to go out: saldr- 10. tener-to have: tendr- Accent mark in ALL FORMS! pág. 2/2 1. It would be interesting to travel to Africa. - Sería interesante viajar a África. 2. I should clean the bathroom today. -Yo limpiaría el baño hoy. 3. We could go to the park this weekend. -Nosotros iríamos al parque este fín de semana. 4. Mother must have lost the keys at the restaurant. -Ella perdería las llaves en el restaurante. Would you all like to play cards with us? -¿Les gustaría jugar los naipes con nosotros? *EJEMPLOS CON LOS VERBOS IRREGULARES* Would you (fam.) please tell me the answer?- Por favor, ¿Podrías decirme la respuesta? 2. Next Saturday, could you all come to my party?- El sábado próximo, ¿Vendrían Uds. a mi fiesta? I will probably do the laundry tomorrow. –Yo haría la colada mañana. We will probably have to cancel the meeting.-Nosotros tendríamos que cancelar la reunión. I could leave the house at a quarter till three -Yo saldría la casa a las tres menos cuarto.
