Preterite vs. Imperfect Usage
1. The Preterite is used: …To express a completed action. Anteayer comiste tacos. Yo fui al centro ayer.

Some expressions that signify completed actions:

5. The Preterite and Imperfect can be used in the same sentence with the conjunction “cuando” (when). Imperfect (existing condition) + cuando +Preterite (interrupting action) Yo preparaba la cena cuando papá llegó a casa. I was making supper when dad got home.
