El Pretérito: is a past tense (“-ed”) talks about what happened
it may indicate the beginning or end of the action or the complete action or event begun and finished in the past. I went to the store. I bought a shirt. I paid in cash.

REMEMBER: Por ejemplo: accents on the “yo” form and the
“él / ella / Ud.” form (except the fraternal twins “ver” and “dar”) -ar / -ir “nosotros” form is the same in present and pretérito Por ejemplo: Nosotros hablamos ayer y hablamos hoy también. Nosotros escribimos mucho ayer y ahora escribimos otro ensayo. but… Nosotros comimos en la cocina ayer y ahora comemos en el comedor.

ALSO REMEMBER: Most verbs that are stem-changing
(o to ue; e to ie) do not change the stem in the preterite tense. cerrar Presentcierro; Preteritecerré Most stem-changing verbs ending in –er do not change the stem vowel in the preterite tense. Some stem-changing verbs ending in –ir have special stem changes in the preterite tense and will be discussed later.
