3 tener- to have (irregular -er verb)
Regular -ar verb Ex: hablar yo tengo nosotros tenemos tú tienes vosotros tenéis él/ella/usted tiene ellos/ellas/ustedes tienen yo hablo nosotros hablamos tú hablas vosotros habláis él/ella/usted habla ellos/ellas/ustedes hablan What patterns do you see?

4 Tener que + infinitive to tell what somebody has to do, use:
Examples: Yo tengo que hablar por teléfono. I have to talk on the phone. Nosotros tenemos que estudiar. We have to study. an infinitive is a verb ending in -ar, -er, or -ir (unconjugated)

5 Guided Practice: Tener or Tener que?

6 Written/Spoken Practice: ¿Qué clase tienes tú?
1. Walk around the room interviewing five classmates by asking: ¿Qué clase tienes tú a las ___(time)___? Repeat for all hours of the day. 2. Answer others’ questions in complete sentences in Spanish. 3. When a classmate answers, write their name in the correct box in the chart below. 4. Add “yo” to the boxes to represent your schedule. 5. Answer the questions on the back in complete sentences in Spanish.
