7 Haber in the imperfect:
Había Habíamos Habías Habíais Habían

8 Ejemplos: I had studied. They had read that book. We had made.
Yo había estudiado. They had read that book. Ellos habían leído ese libro. We had made. Nosotros habíamos hecho.

9 Ya “Ya” = already Often used with the past perfect to indicate that something (action, event, state) had already occurred before another situation. Unlike in English, you cannot put “ya” between haber and the past participle. Ejemplos: She had already eaten when they arrived. Ella ya había comido cuando llegaron. We had already visited the jewelry store when you called. Ya habíamos visitado la joyería cuando llamaste.

10 Práctica: We had already gone to the post office when we saw you.
Ya habíamos ido al correo cuando te vimos. When the fish market closed he had already left. Cuando la pescadería cerró él ya se había ido. Cuando la pescadería cerró él ya había salido.

11 Antes de + [noun] or [infinitive]
You will often see the phrases antes de [noun] or antes de [infinitive] used with the past perfect to describe when an event took place. Ejemplos: Before this year I never had talked with him. Antes de este año yo nunca había hablado con él. The lawyer had called me before arriving/he arrived. El abogado me había llamado antes de llegar.

12 Práctica: Before last year the teacher never had taught at CCHS.
Antes del año pasado el maestro nunca había enseñado a CCHS. We had studied before doing the homework. Nosotros habíamos estudiado antes de hacer la tarea. Before he worked, the dentist had gone to the supermarket. Antes de trabajar, el dentista había ido al supermercado.
