The word “the” is a definite article. It is used to refer to a specific noun - a specific person/thing. In Spanish, the definite articles are: el (the - masc.) los (the - masc plural) la (the - fem.) las (the - fem. plural) Ch. 1 - Nouns, Articles, and Adjectives
