4 Why do we use DOPs? Consider the following.
John has books. I have books, too. John puts the books in his bag. He carries the bag on his shoulder. I put my books in my bag, too. I carry my bag to school. In my bag I have a sandwich. I eat my sandwich. I like my sandwich. I chew my sandwich. I swallow my sandwich. WE USE DOPs SO WE DON’T HAVE TO REPEAT THINGS A ZILLION BILLION TRILLION QUADRILLION TIMES. 

5 Direct Object Pronouns (DOPs)
A direct object receives the action of a verb and serves to answer the question What? or Whom? in relation to that verb When diagramming sentences, put the direct object in a target. I hit the ball. Do you have the books? We know you very well.

11 Placing DOPs with just one verb
Put the DOP before the conjugated verb. Yo llené el tanque. DOP = lo Yo lo llené. (I filled it.)

14 DOP Placement with more than one verb
Put the DOP before the first verb Attach the DOP to the end of the infinitive Attach the DOP to the progressive -ando / iendo

Place before the verb Ellos la quieren arreglar. Attach to the infinitive Ellos quieren arreglarla.

17 Sentence #5 Tú y Ruth están decorando el patio. DOP = lo
Place before the verb Tú y Ruth lo están decorando. Attach to the progressive Tú y Ruth están decorandolo.

18 You Try # 6 Lucía los está lavando. Lucía está lavandolos.

19 The Kicker! When you add DOPs to the ends of progressives, you change the # of syllables, but you don’t actually change the spoken stress on the word. So what?
