INFINITIVES are the most basic form of a verb in Spanish. When you look up a verb in the dictionary, it is in the INFINITIVE form. Infinitives end in either –AR, –ER or –IR

To say things you like to do, use the INFINITIVE form of the verb (ends AR, ER, or IR) EXAMPLE Me gusta bailar. I like to dance. A mí, me gusta mucho bailar. Me, I like to dance a lot. Me encanta nadar. I love to swim. “A mí” can be used to add extra emphasis.

Hoy es jueves, el veinticinco de octubre Gustar – To Like To talk about what you like to do, start with the phrase ME GUSTA and add a verb infinitive/phrase: HABLAR por teléfono Me gusta hablar por teléfono = I like to talk on the phone. To talk about something you really like to do, use Me gusta MUCHO + verb. Me gusta mucho hablar por teléfono = I really like to talk on the phone.

To talk about what you DON’T like to do, use the phrase NO me gusta, and add a verb infinitive/phrase: No me gusta bailar = I DON’T like to dance. To talk about something you REALLY DON’T like to do, use No me gusta NADA + verb. No me gusta nada bailar = I REALLY don’t like to dance. To talk about TWO things you don’t like to do, use No me gusta ___ NI ____. No me gusta bailar, ni cantar. = I don’t like to dance nor sing.
