We use the “menos” expression when telling time in the last half of any hour Think of expressing time this way as saying it’s the upcoming hour minus ____ minutes. 7:50 = 8:00 minus 10 minutes = Son las ocho menos diez

¡CUIDADO! (Be careful!) Leading up to the 1:00 hour we still will use singular verbs and articles 12:31-12:59 = “Es la una menos _____” ex.) 12:45 = Es la una menos cuarto

We can now use special expressions in replacement of 12:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Es el mediodía Es la medianoche These expressions are “all-in-one” No need to say “de la mañana” or “de la tarde”--- they’re implied! It’s mid-day It’s midnight
