2 Preterite Verbs You use the preterite to talk about things that happened in the past. Here are the regular preterite forms of verbs ending in –ar, -er, and –ir.

3 CAMINAR – to walk caminé caminaste caminó caminamos caminasteis
caminaron

4 COMER – to eat comí comiste comió comimos comisteis comieron

5 VIVIR – to live viví viviste vivió vivimos vivisteis vivieron

6 Preterite Verbs Escalé una montaña hoy. I climbed a mountian today.
Salimos de la casa a las cinco de la mañana. We left the house at five o´clock in the morning.

7 -gar, -car, -zar Verbs Remember that verbs ending in –gar, -car, and –zar have a spelling change ONLY in the yo form in the preterite. The other forms of these verbs are regular.
