EJERCICIO: Divídanse en grupos y discutan qué motiva (o desmotiva) a los autores a publicar y leer su revista Informe: Escoja a una persona para sintetizar la discusión de su grupo Discusión general: Considere lo que otros grupos dicen y similitudes y diferencias que existen. The aim of this exercise is to get participants to think about author motivation with regards to their own journals and to learn about the journals of the other participants.

Of course, authors also have responsibilities. However, do the journals tell the authors what their responsibilities are – or do they assume that the authors should know (think of new authors – how will they know)? Notes such as this should be given in author guidelines

13 ¿Cómo seleccionar al autor invitado?
Prepare una lista de aspectos para decidir: 1. ¿Por qué escojo a este autor? 2. ¿Puedo definir claramente el asunto que va a tratar? 3. ¿Puedo dar un ejemplo del estilo? 4. ¿Cuál sería la audiencia? 5. ¿Cantidad de palabras? 6. ¿Fecha límite para el envío? 7. ¿Será arbitrado? 8. ¿Fecha de publicación? 9. ¿Hay algún conflicto de interés? Ask how many participants actively commission content – reviews, case studies, opinion articles, etc. These are generally considered to be high value by readers. If there is any experience of commissioning articles in the room, ask them for their own experience of this to share with the participants.

La relación con los autores debe ser transparente y constante Se le debe ofrecer información de buena calidad Proveer comunicación y decisiones rápidas y a tiempo Estar preparados para apoyarlo y guiarlo Estar preparados para rechazar artículos Puede ser del interés de los autores Sugierir publicaciones alternativas Remember that authors are the life-blood of a journal - but it is not in the journal (or the author’s interests) for bad material to be published, or the reputation of the journal to suffer. Encourage them to suggest other AsiaJOLs to any authors they reject where the paper was of high quality, but did not fit with the scope of their journal.
