What is HIV? Que es el VIH? It is a virus that attacks our immune system. It is a retrovirus. It has RNA not DNA as its genetic material. Es un virus que ataca nuestro sistema inmunológico. Es un retrovirus. Tiene RNA no DNA como su material genético.

How does HIV replicate?/ Como se replica el VIH?
VIH se une a una célula T Inserta su ARN en la célula T Produce ADN de VIH VIH esconde su ADN dentro del ADN de la célula: Esto convierte a la célula en una fábrica de VIH. HIV binds to a T-cell It inserts its RNA into the T-cell It produces HIV DNA It hides HIV DNA inside the cell's DNA: This turns the cell into a HIV factory.

Why cant your body defend itself?
Effects/ Efectos You don’t die from the HIV infection, rather you die from the diseases/infections you get because your body can’t defend itself. (ex: pneumonia) Why cant your body defend itself? These infections are called OPPORTUNISTIC INFECTIONS. No se muere de la infección del VIH, sino de las enfermedades e infecciones que dan porque el cuerpo no puede defenderse a sí mismo. (ej: neumonía) ¿Por qué no puede tu cuerpo defenderse a sí mismo? Estas infecciones se denominan infecciones oportunistas

It is very difficult because the virus mutates very quickly and produces different antigens after only a few generations. Es muy dificil porque el virus muta muy rapido y cambia los antigenos en unas cuantas generaciones.
