2 Let’s start with a review of the troublesome preterit:
¿Cómo se dice, “he fell”?

3 él se cayó Now, “they said”?

4 Ellos dijeron (*remember, no “i” and
no accents if verb is TOTALLY irregular in the preterit) -> Now, “I tried”?

5 Traté or intenté How about, “I arrived”?

6 Yo llegué… What about “ I started?”

7 Yo empecé…. Recuerda: -car, -gar, y –zar verbs spelling changes in the yo forms ONLY ¿Cómo se dice, “He drove”?

8 condujo (no accents on ANY with
irregular “stubs” or if verb is TOTALLY irregular in EVERY form of preterit!) ¿Sabes, “I gave”?

9 Yo di. ( It is ella dio, ellos dieron)
“She realized?”

10 Ella se dio cuenta de…. Remember – dar and ver are similarly Irregular in the preterit: di/vi; diste, viste; dio, vio etc. and NO ACCENTS Ahora, ¿sabes, “I read”?

11 Yo leí …..pero ella/él/usted
LEYÓ ¿Cómo se dice, “he heard”?

12 él oyó (*Watch for ALL those with
a ‘y’ in the él/ella/usted and ustedes/ellos forms: leer, oír, caer, creer, construir, destruir Ahora, escribe en español: “He came to my party.”

13 (“yo form like vine, he/she like wine”)
Vino a mi fiesta. (“yo form like vine, he/she like wine”) What other verbs have those “stubs” in the preterit? ** Check the notes!** ejemplo: What are the forms of hacer in the preterit?

14 Hacer in the preterit: yo hice, tú hiciste, **ella hizo, nosotros hicimos ellos hicieron

15 Ahora – las frases con el pretérito y el imperfecto: Traduce: “Often, I hid mis sentimientos.”

16 A menudo, escondía mis sentimientos. Escribe: “She always spent septiembre a la orilla.”

17 Siempre pasaba los septiembres a la orilla.
Escribe: “Suddenly, she saw el ladrón.”

18 De repente, ella vio el ladrón.
Ahora, cambia del presente al pasado. Usa el pretérito o el imperfecto dónde sea necesario.

19 Cuando corre, ella empieza
a caer.

20 Cuando corría, ella empezó a caer.

21 We used to go to the same school
when we were kids.
