14 5.2 Verbos reflexivos Reflexive verbs often, but not always, indicate an action that one does to oneself: peinarse, afeitarse, bañarse. Other examples: levantarse, sentarse, dormirse, acostarse, irse---you don’t do these actions to your self Reflexive verbs are conjugated just like other verbs, but when fully conjugated, the reflexive pronoun is placed before the verb. The form of the reflexive pronoun depends on the subject.

15 Some reflexive verbs have stem changes.
o → ue acostarse Me acuesto a las once. I go to bed at 11:00. dormirse A veces me duermo en el autobús. Sometimes I fall asleep on the bus. acordar ¿Te acuerdas de tu mejor amigo/a de la infancia? e → ie despertarse Me despierto a las siete. I wake up at 7:00 sentarse Me siento para cenar con mi familia. I sit down to eat dinner with my family. e → i vestirse Me visto en tres minutos. I get dressed in three minutes.

acordarse (de) (to remember) EJ. Me acuerdo muy bien de mis abuelos. I remember my grandparents very well. cepillarse los dientes (to brush one’s teeth) EJ. Me cepillo los dientes cada noche antes de dormir. I brush my teeth every night before bed. irse (to go away, to depart) EJ. ¿A qué hora te vas? At what time are you leaving? lavarse (las manos / la cara) (to wash one’s hands / face) EJ. Me lavo la cara antes de salir para el trabajo. I wash my face before leaving for work.

levantarse (to get up, to stand up) Me levanto muy tarde. I get up very late. ponerse (los lentes / los lentes de contacto) to put on (glasses / contact lenses) Me pongo los lentes cuando me levanto. I put on my glasses when I get up. quedarse (to stay) Siempre se queda con su tía en Miami. He always stays with his aunt in Miami.
