There are many ways to reduce the costs associated with managing and supporting your existing infrastructure. By so doing, you may be able to redeploy some of your IT budget away from maintenance tasks to the development and deployment of new applications to help you manage and grow your business. The IOE GTM suggests three. Your system admins spend much of their time implementing manual processes. This is a potential source of errors and a significant component of your IT operating expense. If you take advantage of the software options that exist to support your system admins, they can get much more work done per shift and that may make it possible to reduce the number of admins required to run each shift. Reducing the number of different machine types that require admin staff expertise. Your Unix systems require Unix system admins and your Windows systems require Windows systems admins. These are rarely the same person. If you migrate the workload that currently resides on your Unix systems to Windows, you will no longer require the Unix system admins. The scalability and availability of Windows server 2003 in conjunction with the range of Intel-based multiprocessor machine options make this viable. Reducing the number of machines that have to be managed, that take up floor space, consume electricity, require software licenses, require annual hardware and software maintenance contracts and that require the time and attention of the systems admin staff. Shrinking budgets and increasing competitive pressure due to the economic downturn provide the imperative to repurpose budget dollars from maintenance costs to revenue generation, thus increasing the ROI on IT investments. Vision: These challenges can be addressed through an inherently flexible software platform, by substituting management software for manual labor, and by reducing the size and complexity of the IT infrastructure. Our Position: Microsoft and its partners support the drive to increased operational efficiency through server consolidation – by providing a proven platform, end to end consolidation services and best practices. Microsoft’s solutions for Server Consolidation deliver the tools, best practices and step by step guidance to drive down TCO and optimize IT infrastructure, while providing the agility you need to deliver new business solutions. 17 Unificar el Ambiente Solución para la migración desde UNIX
Mejores prácticas, ejemplos y herramientas disponibles para la migración Microsoft Solution for Unix Migration Ejecute Aplicaciones Unix bajo ambiente Windows Porte Aplicaciones Unix a ambiente Windows Disminuya el TCO de forma significativa Amplio ecosistema La plataforma de menor riesgo mirando hacia el futuro Windows Server and the Solution for UNIX Migration enable UNIX customers to do more with less. Windows Server and the Solution for UNIX Migration give existing UNIX customers a superior enterprise-class platform, one that delivers greatly reduced TCO ,increased agility and greater operational efficiency. Market: UNIX remains a leading server operating system and viable competitor in the server market. For FY02, UNIX (Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, and others) represented 571K server shipments, or 13.5% of the total server market by units. However, the UNIX install base (IB) of 3.1M server units is increasingly vulnerable to migration – due to increased customer focus on best economics (“do more with less”) and simplicity, Intel-based hardware price/performance advantages over RISC and proprietary Unix, and the impact of Linux. Proposition: Windows delivers the same reliability and scalability as UNIX, simpler with lower TCO, is an easy move – and positions you with the enterprise platform for the future Microsoft Windows is a mature, proven platform on which your business can depend to deliver greater productivity along with better long-term business value and a stronger competitive advantage (larger ecosystem, lower risk future platform) over Linux alternatives. Windows Server offers a significantly lower overall cost (TCO) platform alternative to UNIX (Parity with Linux) A customer study by the Aberdeen group demonstrated a 46% overall cost of ownership advantage for the Windows 2000 server platform over Unix for medium and large enterprise customers. (Analyst Study) Similar results from a larger META Group study of over 100 customers showed a 50% and greater cost benefit for deploying ERP on Windows server over Sun Solaris. (Analyst Study) Recent Linux vs. Windows TCO study from IDC shows that Windows 2000 has a lower 5 year TCO than Linux in 4 out of 5 common workloads – thus, despite the fact that Linux is (usually) free to acquire, Windows delivers a significantly lower TCO over the long term. (Analyst Study) Windows Server and SQL are the TPC-C price/performance leader, holding the top 25+ spots. ( all results noted as of 5/2/03) (Benchmarks) Customers can reduce costs by migrating from Sybase to SQL Server. Customers can use the Business Value Calculator for Sybase to SQL Server Migrations to assess their specific cost savings.
