Compulsory Education Law (EC 48200) in the State of California says that it is the responsibility of every parent to assure that every child between the ages of attends school everyday and on-time. High school dropouts are more likely to be unemployed, live in poverty, receive public assistance, and go to prison. 15 LAUSD will phase in the new credit/grade plan over the next two years:
The Board of Education approved an A-G Curriculum for incoming high school freshmen beginning with the class of 2016 The approved A-G Curriculum plan will ensure all LAUSD graduates will be eligible to enroll in the University of California (UC) or Cal State University (CSU) system or start a career, beginning with the Class of LAUSD will phase in the new credit/grade plan over the next two years: Phase 1 For incoming high school freshman of class of 2016, the number of credits required to graduate will change from 230 to Students must pass all A-G courses, including Algebra 2 and two years of World Language with grade of a “D” or better to obtain credits toward graduation. Phase 2 For the class of 2017 and beyond, LAUSD will raise the current passing grade from a “D” to “C” specifically for the 15 required A-G courses. For students who receive a “D” in a non A-G class or go beyond the required 15 A-G courses and receive a “D,” this will not interfere with the student’s track to graduation.
