6 ¿Que nueva funcionalidad ofrece esta característica?
Despliegue de impresoras utilizando GPO’s Despliegue automático de impresoras con GPO’s a usuarios o maquinas e instalar los drivers apropiados. Esta característica se introdujo en w2k3 R2 pero se necesitaba la herramienta PushPrinterConnections.exe en un script de inicio, ahora viene incluido en Vista y Windows server 2008 Versión del esquema de AD Windows 2003 R2 o Windows Server 2008 You can use Print Management with Group Policy to automatically deploy printer connections to users or computers and install the appropriate printer drivers. This feature was introduced in Windows Server 2003 R2, but required the use of the PushPrinterConnections.exe tool in a startup script (for per- computer connections) or in a logon script (for per-user connections). This functionality is now included in client computers running Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008. Additionally, these operating systems can now receive per-user printer connections during background Group Policy refresh operations.

Para las conexiones por máquina se añade la impresora cuando el usuario hace logon(o en reinicio de la máquina con PushPrinterConnection.exe) Para conexiones per user se añade la impresora durante el refresco en segundo plano de las políticas (o cuando el usuario hace logon si utilizamos la herramienta) En el caso del borrado de la conexión de impresora, esta se eliminara en el siguiente refresco de política o logon de usuario (o en el siguiente reinicio o logon del usuario con la herramienta)

Importar y exportar configuración de impresoras Printer Migration Wizard o la herramienta Printbrm.exe permiten exportar colas de impresión, configuración de impresoras, puertos de impresión e importarlas en otro servidor. Forma eficiente de consolidar varios servidores de impresión, de reemplazar un servidor de impresión antiguo o de tener un backup de la configuración de impresoras. Printer Migration Wizard y Printbrm.exe reemplazan a Print Migrator 3.1.(backups no compatibles) The following XML control files are part of the printer export file, in addition to the individual printer driver and configuration files that are backed up: BrmDrivers.xml: Printer Driver description file. This file contains a list of every driver that is installed on the computer and the driver files for each driver. BrmForms.xml: Forms description file. This file contains a list of all of the installed forms. BrmLMons.xml: Port monitor definition file. This file will usually contain either Windows NT x86 or Windows x64 as the architecture and a list of port monitors and the port monitor files installed on the computer. BrmPorts.xml: Printer ports definition file. This file will contain a list of all printer ports that have been installed on the computer. BrmPrinters.xml: Printer definition file. This file will contain a list of all printers that have been installed on the computer. BrmSpoolerAttrib.xml: Spooler attributes definition file. This file contains information about the spooler directory path and a value that determines if the source machine was a cluster server.

Se instala el rol desde Server Manager con los siguientes roles hijos Servidor de Impresión (Consola) Line Printer Daemon (LPD) Internet Printing (IPP) The LPD Service is available for installation as an optional Print Services role service. The LPD (Line Printer Daemon) Service installs and starts the TCP/IP Print Server (LPDSVC) service, implemented in lpdsvc.dll. The LPD Service enables UNIX-based computers or other computers that are using a Line Printer Remote (LPR) port to print to shared printers on the server. The TCP/IP Print Server inbound exception for TCP port 515 is created in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security when the LPD Service role service is installed Internet Printing functionality has not changed in Windows Server 2008.
