¿Cuánto cuesta?  To ask how much something costs, we ask “¿Cuánto cuesta?”  To answer, we say “Cuesta…” and then the price How do we tell the price in Spanish?

Dollar= “Dólar” Cents= “Céntimos” Put the dollar amount first. Then, the cents (if there are any) Por ejemplo One dollar and fifteen cents ($1.15) Un dolár y quince céntimos ($1.15)

Cuesta vs. Cuestan If we are talking about one thing, we ask ¿Cuánto cuesta? We also answer with “cuesta”

Por ejemplo… ¿Cuánto cuesta la naranja? La naranja cuesta un dólar y veinticinco céntimos. $1.25

Cuesta vs. Cuestan If we are talking about more than one thing, we ask ¿Cuánto cuestan? We also answer with “cuestan”

Por ejemplo… ¿Cuánto cuestan las hamburgesas? Las hamburgesas cuestan un dólar y cincuenta céntimos. $1.50

What about when it costs at least $2?  Pluralize “dólar” dólares Four dollars and fifty cents ($4.50) Cuatro dólares y cincuenta céntimos Por ejemplo… Diez dólares y noventa y nueve céntimos Ten dollars and ninety-nine cents ($10.99)

Práctica One dollar and sixty-seven cents ($1.67) Un dólar y sesenta y siete céntimos. Five dollars and fourty cents ($5.40) Cinco dólares y cuarenta céntimos. Twenty dollars and twenty-five cents ($20.25) Veinte dólares y veinticinco céntimos.

Pluralizing words  If something ends in a vowel, just add an “s” Dos manzanas Una manzana  If something ends in “n”, add an “es” Un jamón Dos jamónes

Práctica How much do three yogurts cost? ¿Cuánto cuestan tres yogurs? Three yogurts cost two dollars and fourty cents. ($2.40) Tres yogurs cuestan dos dólares y cuarenta céntimos How much does one yogurt cost? ¿Cuánto cuesta un yogur? One yogurt costs eighty cents. Un yogur cuesta ochenta céntimos.
