This week our class will be focusing on our experiences with nature. We can experience nature almost anywhere, even in a big city. Comprehension: cause and effect Events in a story can often be organized by cause and effect. One event often causes another to happen Students will read several stories and think about what might happen next, or the effect one thing has one something else. Then, they will think and write about two plausible (possible) effects after reading each story. Here are some activities you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing. Word Workout Words to Know: homographs- Have your child define words and use the words in sentences. Help your child match other definitions to more difficult words. Spelling/Phonics: different sounds of u- Spell a word, either correctly or intentionally incorrectly. If you use the wrong spelling, your child will say “Stop!” and spell the word correctly. Please, return all Star Reading Letters signed by Friday. MAP testing will be two days this week and one day next week. Please, make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a well-balanced breakfast in the morning. Results will be shared at parent-teacher conferences. Students should read only chapter books as part of our AR program. Students read books within their identified independent reading range based on the Star Reading computer-based test. After reading a book within their level, students take an online test to assess comprehension. Students earn points based on how many correct answers they receive. All students have a 9 week term goal. Below you will also find my classroom policies regarding AR: 1.All students are to read chapter books within their independent reading range 2.Maintain an 85% average on the cumulative of tests to participate in weekly Fun Fridays and school-wide AR celebrations. Scores with-in 60%-80% will not be deleted. 3.Scores below 60%- Re-read the book and retake the AR test until score is above 60%. 4.Take tests on only books.2 below to.2 above reading range without permission from the teacher. This does not apply to books read out-loud by teachers. 5.Tests can only be taken during school hours and at school.
