Subjuntivo con expresiones de emoción

1. The subjunctive is used in a clause that modifies a verb or expression conveying any kind of emotion. Verbos de emoción Alegrarse de – to be happy that Estar contento- to be glad Estar triste- to be sad Sorprender-to surprise Gustar-to like Es una lástima- it’s a pity Temer- to fear Tener miedo de- to be afraid

2. In a clause that follows a verb or expression of emotion the information can be factual. Ej. Me alegro de que Teresa esté con nosotros. ¿Estás contento de que Teresa esté aquí? Creo que es una lástima que esté con nosotros. Despite Teresa being there, the subjunctive is used because the clause begins with an expression of feeling.

El Subjuntivo con espresiones de duda. 1. When a clause is introduced with a statement of doubt, we use the subjunctive. It may or may not take place. If there is certainty then we use the indicative.

Expressions of Doubt (Subjuntivo) Dudar Es dudoso No estar seguro No creer No es cierto Dudo que ellos lleguen mañana de Punta del Este.

Expresiones (Indicativo) No dudar No es dudoso No hay duda Estar seguro Creer Es cierto Creo que ella va a llegar hoy.

2. Forming ¿? When a person asking a question thinks the answer is yes they may use the indicative and the subjunctive, when the answer is no. – Ej. ¿Crees que ella viene? Yo, sí. ¿Crees que ella venga? Yo, no

Subjuntivo en cláusulas adverbiales We use the subjuntive with the following information because the information that follows isn’t necessarily real. Para que- so that De modo que- in such a way that, so that De manera que- in such away that, so that Con tal de que- provided that Sin que- unless A menos que- unless
