The vs. A/An/Some Sometimes, it makes more sense to use a, an or some when referring to an item of clothing. That’s when we use the indefinite articles, un, una, unos and unas. Singular Plural Masculine Un Unos Feminine Una Unas
The vs. A/An/Some All you need to do to switch from “the” to “a”, “an” or “some” is change the article from definite (el, los, la, las) to indefinite (un, unos, una,unas). La camisa = The shirt Una camisa = A shirt Los pantalones – The pants Unos pantalones – Some pants
Pick up a whiteboard, pen and eraser. Listen as you hear a description of an outfit. Listen for the verb, llevar, as well as the indefinite articles (un, una, unos, unas). Draw the clothing items you hear. Now listen to a classmate describe an outfit!
Now, look at the picture on each slide and write a complete sentence about what each person is wearing. Start with the subject (él, ella, etc.), then add the conjugated form of the verb llevar, then add the clothing items. Follow along with the next example!
¿Qué lleva ella? What is she wearing? Ella lleva un vestido azul. She is wearing a blue dress.
¿Qué lleva ella? What is she wearing? Ella lleva una blusa blanca y una falda azul. She is wearing a white blouse and a blue skirt.
¿Qué lleva él? What is he wearing? Él lleva una gorra roja. He is wearing a red cap.
¿Qué lleva él? What is he wearing? Él lleva una camiseta azul, una sudadera verde, y jeans. He is wearing a blue t-shirt, a green sweatshirt, and jeans.
¿Qué llevamos? What are we wearing? Notice that when the subject is plural, the noun is too. (We -> Shirts) Nosotros llevamos camisas azules y pantalones negros. We are wearing blue shirts and black pants.
¿Qué llevan ellas? What are they (girls)wearing? Ellas llevan vestidos morados. The girls are wearing purple dresses.
¿Qué llevan ellos? What are they (boys)wearing? Ellos llevan chaquetas rojas. They are wearing red jackets.
¿Qué llevan ellos? What are they (boys & girls)wearing? Ellos llevan camisetas amarillas y pantalones cortos amarillos. They are wearing yellow t-shirts and yellow shorts.
¿Qué llevan ellos? What are they (boys & girls)wearing? Ella lleva una camisa y pantalones cortos. Él lleva una camisa y pantalones. She is wearing a shirt and shorts. He is wearing a shirt and pants.
Share a laminated set of pictures with your partner. Write sentences to describe what various people are wearing. Use the verb LLEVAR. Remember to make sure the adjective (color) matches the noun in both gender and number.
