Felices fiestas Happy Holidays

(Christmas is celebrated in all Spanish-speaking countries, because the majority of the people are Catholic [although there are more and more Evangelicals in Latin America].) (In Spain [and I think in other Spanish-speaking countries] the three wise men have traditionally brought gifts to kids on January 6th. And they leave them in shoes.)

Comer doce uvas durante la nochevieja (Eating 12 grapes on New Year’s Eve) En España se comen doce uvas (una para cada mes del año) con los últimos doce segundos del año. (In Spain they eat 12 grapes [one for each month of the year] during the last 12 seconds of the year.) También se disfrazan. (And they all dress up in costumes.)

(Argentina has a fairly large Jewish population. They celebrate Hanukkah [obviously]).

(Spain has more than 10,000 practitioners of Ásatrú, a religion that worships Odin and his son Thor. That’s right, the dude with the hammer.) (They celebrate the winter solstice [Yule or Yuletide] to recognize the sun god, Baldr, another one of Odin’s sons.)

(Where are you going / what are you doing for winter break?) (I’m going to Gainesville, Georgia, the chicken capital of the world.)
