Español 3: 7B ¿pero, sino o sino que?

pero - but (conjunction - connects 2 sentences together) ejemplo: Quiero comprar los zapatos, pero no tengo bastante dinero. sino - but rather/instead (sino is used after a negative, in order to offer the idea of an alternative (not this, but rather that) No voy a beber jugo de naranja sino agua. No vamos a hacer tarea en clase sino en casa.

Sometimes you will use sino in other phrases no sólo...sino (que) también - not only, but also solo -alone (no acento); sólo -only (acento) eje: Apareció no sólo el sol sino también la luna. Los estudiantes no sólo escuchan sino que también prestan atención. Sino que (but rather, instead) - is used when there is a conjugated verb in the 2nd part of the sentence. Instead of using “sino”, you use “sino que” eje: No vendí mis libros sino que los regalé.
