Stem Changers in the Preterite:

Stem changers in the present tense: How do they work? In some conjugations of the verb, a letter in the stem/root changes. Then they use the same endings as regular verbs. Where do these stem changes happen? In the “boot” (all but “nosotros” and “vosotros” forms) What kinds are there? Changes: O:ue, e:ie, e:i, u:ue There are stem changing verbs that are –ar, -er, and – ir verbs

Ejemplos: I will be giving you some examples of stem changing verbs in the preterite. See what you can notice about when and how they are different than a normal verb. We’ve already noted that –ar and –er verbs that stem change in the present DON’T in the preterite so we’ll stick to –ir verbs.
