Los Mandatos

Mandatos Commands In order to order people to do things, you need the imperative form…making commands.

Los Mandatos To give a command to someone you address as “tú”…we use the informal command form.

Affirmative tú commands are the same as the él/ella form of the present tense. -AR verbs -ER/IR verbs Bailar baila dance! Cortar corta cut! Empezar empieza begin! Leer lee read! Vivir vive  live! Dormir duerme sleep!

Ejemplos: ¡Recicla! Recycle! ¡Convive con tus vecino! Get along with your neighbor! ¡Acaba con el racismo! End racism! ¡Trabaja de voluntario! Work as a volunteer! ¡Resuelve el problema! Resolve the problem!

A few irregular tú command forms… venir ¡ven! come! decir ¡di! say! tell! salir ¡sal! leave! hacer ¡haz! do, make! tener ¡ten! have, be! ir ¡ve! go! poner ¡pon! put, place, set! ser ¡sé! be!

Ahora…usa mandatos con estos verbos… Trabajar en el comedor . Hacer un esfuerzo. Seguir con tus estudios. Juntar fondos. Ayudar a los minusválidos. Ser bueno. 7. Decir la verdad siempre.

Las respuestas… ¡Trabaja en el comedor! ¡Haz un esfuerzo! ¡Sigue con tus estudios! ¡Junta fondos! ¡Ayuda a los minusválidos! ¡Sé bueno! ¡Di la verdad siempre!

Negative Tú Commands= “Don’t verb!”

La Formación:Tú (negativo) Step 1 Yo form of the present Step 2 Drop –o Step 3 Add opposite endings AR verbs -es ER/IR verbs -as Step one: “yo form” of the present Step Two: Drop – o Step Three: Add “opposite”ending -ar -es - er/-ir  -as Luchar Step 1- Lucho Step 2- Luch- Step 3- ¡No luches!

Para formar el mandato con un pronombre: Sentar(se) Sienta(te)  Siéntate The stress naturally falls on the second-to-last syllable if the word ends in a vowel, n, or s. When the pronoun is added, it adds an additional syllable. An accent must be added to maintain the original pronunciation.

Remember… the Dishes are irregular DAR- No des IR- No vayas Ser- No seas Haber- No hayas Estar- No estés Saber- No sepas Also, remember that pronouns go before the verb in negative commands. Ejemplo- pelearse (¡ No te pelees !) dormirse (¡ No te duermas !)
