The Infinitive Form of Verbs An infinitive is the most basic form of a verb. In English, the infinitive form is To + verb For example: to sing to buy to dance to wish to speak to look for

The Infinitive Form of Spanish Verbs In Spanish, there are three families of the infinitive form of verbs. -ar family hablar (to speak) -er family comer (to eat) -ir family vivir (to live) Infinitive verbs end in ar, er, or ir.

Before we begin to conjugate verbs, let’s review subject pronouns. singular plural yo nosotros tú vosotros él/ ella/ usted ellos/ellas/ ustedes

Every verb has two parts: STEM + ENDING hablar = habl- practicar = practic- trabajar = trabaj- bailar = bail- comprar = compr- + ar

To form –ar verbs in the present tense, do the Chop Suey…….Swoosh Step one: Chop Suey chop off the –ar ending. hablar = habl mirar = mir dibujar = dibuj

Swoosh… -o -amos -as -áis -a -an Step two: Add the verb ending that matches the subject. -o -amos -as -áis -a -an

How do we use the present tense in Spanish? The Spanish simple present tense can convey three different ideas in English. The simple present: Juan trabaja en la escuela. John works in the school. Ongoing actions: John is working in the school. To emphasize an action. John does work in the school.
