מבחר מציפורי דרום אמריקה דצמבר 2009 מבחר מציפורי דרום אמריקה בדרך כלל לא פותחים עם הלהיט אני לא עמדתי בפיתוי ובחרתי להתחיל עם הציפור המדהימה הזו, ציפור "הצווארון הלבן" הקונדור האנדיני Andean Condor Vulture gryphus מוטת הכנפיים מגיעה עד 310 ס"מ, ומשקל הזכר עד 15 ק"ג. מרחב הטריטוריה היומי בו הוא מחפש בשר הוא 200 ק"מ. במעופו הוא מגיע עד לרום של 5000 מ'. זהו נשר-על הנעזר לצורך איתור מזונו בראיה מצויינת (כמו נשר) ובנוסף גם בחוש ריח מפותח ביותר. תפוצתו מוונצואלה בצפון יבשת דרום אמריקה ועד לפאתי אנטארקטיקה (Tierra del Fuego), ונוכחותו גוברת ככל שמדרימים. Harpy eagle Harpia harpyja Iguasu waterfalls, Brazil Lior Almagor © הדורס הגדול הפעיל ביער האמזוני. בעל מוטת כנפיים לא גדולה במיוחד (שלא תפריע לו בעת מעוף אל ובין העצים), כ – 2 מ'. הנקבה גדולה מהזכר ומשקלה עד 9 ק"ג (הזכר עד 6 ק"ג). ציפור חזקה מאד המסוגל לטרוף יונקים רבים מצמרות העצים (קופים וכד') ומסוגלת להניף משקל השווה ל – 75% ממשקל גופה.

Magellanic Penguin Spheniscus magellanicus Lior Almagor © ציפור נודדת שגובהה כ – 50 ס"מ. בתקופת הנדידה יעבור הפינגווין עד 3000 ק"מ צפונה לחופי ברזיל בחיפוש אחרי מזג אוויר נוח יותר. בונה את קינו בשוחה ליד החוף שם דוגרים על הביצים (בדר"כ 2) ומאכילים את הגוזלים. בתקופת החיזור והטלת הביצים הפינגווינים לא אוכלים והולכים לים בעיקר כדי לשתות. מ – 2 הגוזלים הנולדים רק אחד שורד (החזק). מוגדר כנמצא בסכנת הכחדה, בעיקר עקב התמעטות המזון (דגה). בשמורה בה ביקרנו (Punta Tombo, Argentine) היו באותה העת כ – 500,000 פרטים!!

Rufus Hornero Furnarius rufus Buenos Aires, Argentine Lior Almagor © הציפור הלאומית של ארגנטינה. נקראת גם "ציפור הכבשן" על שום הקן שהזוג בונה בדר"כ על ענף של עץ. מלאכת מחשבת של בוץ מודבק היוצר קן דומה לכבשן בו אופים לחם ופיתות. בניית הקן נמשכת 3 שבועות!! ולמרבה הצער הם משתמשים בו לצורך קינון וגידול הגוזל פעם אחת בלבד. כך שהטרחה בבניית הקן חוזרת על עצמה כל שנה מחדש. הקן החדש יכול לעיתים קרובות להיות ממוקם ממש ליד הקן הקודם.
