Hidalgo led a revolt against the Spanish government.
The Spaniards found out about this coup and ordered for the arrest of Hidalgo and others.
When Hidalgo heard of his arrest, he gathered the people at his church he gave his infamous speech. He rang the church bell on the night of September 15, 1810 to call his congregation to mass
He rallied the people to revolt and fight. He gave Grito de Delores saying, Viva Mexico and Viva la independencia
