What our parents had to say… CABE was a GREAT EXPERIENCE with EXCELLENT WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS! We learned that parent involvement is the bridge to the school and to make sure it is always open! We learned that parents and students working together along with the school staff can be a team that will help students succeed. We learned strategies to better communicate with our children. We learned that having a “Parent Center” at our schools would encourage parent involvement. We learned COLLABORATION not CONFRONTATION. WE hope that this conference will continue to be offered every year to SUHSD parents and more of them!

Lo que nuestros padres expresaron… ¡CABE fue una GRAN EXPERIENCIA INOLVIDABLE CON TALLERES EXCELENTES PARA LOS PADRES! ¡Aprendimos que la participación de los padres es el puente a la escuela y asegurarnos que siempre esté abierto! Aprendimos que los padres y los estudiantes que trabajan juntos en colaboración con el personal escolar pueden formar un equipo que ayudará a los estudiantes a tener éxito. Aprendimos estrategias de comunicarnos mejor con nuestros hijos. Aprendimos que tener un “Centro para Padres” en nuestras escuelas animaría la participación de los padres. Aprendimos COLABORACIÓN no CONFRONTACIÓN. ¡Esperamos que esta conferencia siga siendo ofrecida cada año a padres de SUHSD e invitar a más padres!

QUESTIONS FOR PARENTS . . . Q1.   What strategy (1-2) did you or the other parents learn that you can apply now?  We learned COLLABORATION not CONFRONTATION, to listen and not be judgmental, make the time to volunteer, and support our children as well as other children who need it. Q2. What was the most memorable experience for you and your team? It’s hard for us to choose just one memorable experience because the whole experience was memorable. Every speaker in our workshops had valuable information, tips, and strategies we can start to use as soon as we get home. We were provided with the tools to use for every situation and the understanding of diversity. We understand that change is needed from both parents and their children. Q3.  Based on what you learned, what recommendations  do you have for the school and/or district regarding our services to English Learners?  Our recommendations would be to look into getting parent centers placed in each school which will inspire more parents to get involved in their child’s school. We would also encourage dual language immersion in our child’s school.

PREGUNTAS PARA NUESTROS PADRES. . . P1.  ¿Cuál estrategia (1-2 estrategias) aprendió Ud. o los otros padres aprendieron que Ud. puede aplicar o implementar ahora? Aprendimos la COLABORACIÓN no CONFRONTACIÓN, escuchar y no ser críticos, reservar tiempo para ofrecernos de voluntarios, y apoyar a nuestros niños así como otros niños que lo necesitan. P2.  ¿Cuál fue la experiencia más memorable para Ud. y su grupo? Es difícil para nosotros elegir sólo una experiencia memorable porque la experiencia entera fue memorable. Cada presentador en nuestros talleres tenía información valiosa, consejos, y estrategias que podemos comenzar a usar tan pronto como lleguemos a casa. Nos dieron los instrumentos para usar para cada situación y el entendimiento de diversidad. Entendemos que el cambio es necesario de ambos los padres como los hijos. P3. De acuerdo con lo que Ud. aprendió, ¿cuáles recomendaciones tendría Ud. para la escuela y/o para el distrito tocante a nuestros servicios para sus hijos que están aprendiendo inglés?  Nuestras recomendaciones serían de averiguar si es posible establecer centros para padres en cada escuela lo cual inspirará a más padres a involucrarse en la escuela de su hijo/a. También animaríamos la doble inmersión de idiomas en la escuela de nuestro/a hijo/a.
