Response to HAART in naïve patients with a diagnosis of tuberculosis. R esults from the Spanish cohort of antiretroviral naïve patients Moreno S, Sobrino P, Caro-Murillo AM, Iribarren JA, Ramos JM, Vidal F, Navarro G, Lopez Aldeguer J, Santos I, Del Amo J and CoRIS FUNDING: ISCIII-RETIC RD06/006

Objective  To evaluate immunological, virological and clinical responses to HAART, as well as all-cause mortality, in naïve patients with a diagnosis of TB compared to subjects with another ADI or event- free individuals. Subjects & Methods  CoRIS is an multicenter cohort of naïve adults recruited in 19 Spanish hospitals:  Patients were classified according to having had TB, other ADI 6 months before HAART or being AIDS-free.  Immunological response: increase of 50 cells perx10 6 cells/l 6 months after HAART and 100 perx10 6 cells/l a year after HAART.  Virological response: percentage of subjects reaching VL below 50 copies six months or a year after HAART.  All cause mortality rates were modelled with Cox regression

Study population 1709 subjects Immunological response Virological response NS

Multivariate Cox Regression Death rates according to ADI status before HAART

 A diagnosis of TB or another ADI before starting HAART does not compromise short-term viral and immunological responses to treatment.  Subjects who started HAART and had a previous ADI had an increased mortality compared to subjects who were AIDS-free, although differences were statistically significant for ADI other than TB Conclusions
