USO GENERAL the preterite refers to: simple, isolated & completed events in the past actions that occurred in the past that have a definitive beginning and end actions that occurred a specific number of times

Verbos regulares que terminan con -AR éé  aste óó  amos  aron

-CAR, -GAR & -ZAR  have a spelling change in the –yo form ONLY  car: qué  gar: gué  zar: cé

Verbos “U” stem in preterite  estar: estuv  tener: tuv  andar: anduv  poder: pud  poner: pus  saber: sup  caber: cup endings ee  iste oo  imos  ieron  NO ACCENTS

IR & SER  have the same forms in the preterite  fui  fuiste  fue  fuimos  fueron

DAR & VER dar  di  diste  dio  dimos  dieron  NO ACCENTS ver  vi  viste  vio  vimos  vieron  NO ACCENTS

VERBOS “I” preterite stem  querer: quis  venir: vin  hacer: hic (él/ella/Ud. form has a spelling change: c – z) hizo endings  e  iste  o  imos  ieron  NO ACCENTS  e  iste  o  imos  ieron  NO ACCENTS
