3 Why do we need the “pronombres personales”? To know what form of a verb to use. To indicate (tell) who we are talking about. To know who others are talking about.

Yo fui I was or I went Nosotros/-as fuimos We were or we went Tú fuiste You were or you went Vosotros fuisteis ( Spain ONLY) Y’all were or Y’all went Usted fue You were or you went Ustedes fueron You all were or you all went Él fue He was or he went Ellos fueron They went (males or mixed group) Ella fue She was or she went Ellas fueron They went (all females) How do you know the difference between “was/were” and “went”? If the verb is “ir”, you will usually see the name of a place. It is more common to use “ir” in the preterit.
