Descripciones To describe people and things in Spanish we use adjectives Adjectives are modifiers that MUST BE IN AGREEMENT WITH THE NOUN (i.e. number and gender) they are describing. Ex: – La casa bonita / las casas bonitas. – La casa es bonita / las casas son bonitas In Spanish, the adjective usually comes AFTER the noun it modifies…which is opposite of what we do in English
21
Rules for adjectives All adjectives need to agree in NUMBER and GENDER. – La casA es bonitA Adjectives that en in E don’t have a gender but they need to agree in NUMBER – El estudiante inteligentE – La chica inteligentE If the adjective ends in a consonant, to make it plural add ES – El niño veloZ Los niños velocES
22
Examples The white dog = the dog white = el perro blanco The funny boy = the boy funny = el chico gracioso The smart students = the students smart = los estudiantes inteligentes BUT The dog is white = el perro es blanco The boy is funny = el chico es gracioso The students are smart = Los estudiantes son inteligentes
23
Translate 1. A pretty girl 2. The actor is handsome 3. The big shoes (zapatos) 4. A lazy student (female) 5. The intelligent teacher 6. They are very funny 7. She is very talented 8. We are disorganized
