3 Ser y Estar- La Diferencia Ser and Estar both mean “to be” in Spanish, but they are used for different situations. ser is used for permanent descriptions. Ser is used when talking about where someone is from and when describing someone’s permanent qualities (tall, blonde, etc.) estar is generally used when describing feeling or temporary conditions and temporary or permanent location.  Remember that origin and location are two different things- Origin refers to where someone came from (I am from Mexico), but location describes where something or someone is, for example at or in. (I am in Mexico).
