Gustar translates backwards Not “I like it” “It is pleasing to me”

Rule 1 – gusta with a singular noun: A mí me gusta el color verde. Gusta is singular because the subject “color” is singular.

Rule 2 - gusta with verbs : A mí me gusta cocinar y comer el broccoli (porque es verde, claro). Gusta is singular because the subject “cocinar y comer” is a verb (even if there are 2 or more verbs) (notice they are infinitives)

Rule 3 – gustan with plural nouns : A mí me gustan las plantas y los extraterrestres de Júpiter. (es obvio) Gustan is plural because the subject “plantas y extraterrestres” is plural.
