5  The future and the conditional share a group of irregular verbs. Use the appropriate tense endings added to these irregular stems.

9  1. To express future time (will or shall in English)  ¿A qué hora llegarán Uds.? At what time will/shall you arrive?  2. To say what you think is probably true now or what might be happening right now.  ¿Qué hora será? What time could it be (right now)?  El vuelo probablemente tendrá retraso. The flight must be behind schedule.

10  NOTE: The future tense is most commonly replaced with the ir a + infinitive construction, typically referring to things that are going to happen in an immediate future.  Voy a esquiar en los Pirineos. I’m going to ski in the Pyrennes. (going to happen soon)

14  1. To say what you think was probably true or what might have happened in the past  Serían las ocho y media cuando llegamos al hotel. It must have been 8:30 when we got to the hotel.  2. To express probability or conjecture in the past time.  Sería la una. It was probably one o’clock.  Habría algunas dificultades. There were probably some difficulties.
