I am speaking Yo como means: I eat I am eating

3 The Present Progressive
We use the present progressive tense when we want to emphasize that something is happening right now. Example: What are you doing? Right now, I am speaking.

I am speaking. You are writing. He is listening. She is playing soccer. We are running. They are playing. You all are singing. Mr. Zimmer is walking. Mr. Greenwood is coaching. PART 1: the verb estar replaces is, am, & are Yo estoy Tú estás Él, ella, ud. está Nosotros estamos Ellos, ellas, uds. están

PART 2: replace the action verb with the “-ing” of the verb AR verbs Drop -ar Add –ando ER/IR verbs Drop –er or –ir Add -iendo Stem changing verbs* Exception: LEER* I am speaking. You are writing. I am speaking. You are writing. He is listening. She is playing soccer. We are running. You all are singing. Mr. Zimmer is walking. Yo estar + hablar  Yo estoy hablando Tú estar + escribir  Tú estás escribiendo Él está escuchando. Ella está jugando el fútbol. Nosotros estamos corriendo. Ustedes están cantando. Señor Zimmer está caminando. Remember - 99% of the time, we use present tense only; present progressive is only used to emphasize what is happening right now.

7 The Present Progressive: Stem changers and Leer
Stem changing verbs & go verbs do not get the stem change if you use present progressive. Examples: Ella está volviendo Él está jugando Yo estoy haciendo la tarea Leer is the 1 big exception Yo estoy leiendo – INCORRECT Yo estoy leyendo Why? 3 vowels next to each other is hard to pronounce and really weird to look at  Remember - 99% of the time, we use present tense only; present progressive is only used to emphasize what is happening right now.
