2 Verbs and Expressions that use the infinitive
When you use two verbs together in Spanish, the second one is usually the infinitive. That means that you conjugate the first one and leave the second one unconjugated. Ex: Oscar prefiere llevar jeans los fines de semana. ¿Vas a llevar un suéter esta noche? 3 Reflexive Verbs To say that people do something to or for themselves, you use reflexive verbs. For example, washing one’s hands and brushing one’s hair are reflexive actions because the person doing the action also receives the action. 7 Conjugation of Reflexive Verbs
The reflexive pronouns that needs to come before the conjugated verbs are: (YO) ME (NOSOTROS) NOS (TÚ) TE (ÉL – ELLA – UD.) SE (ELLOS- ELLAS – UDS.) SE Ex: Antes de una cita, yo me ducho y me arreglo el pelo. Before a meeting I shower and fix my hair. Todos los días me baño y me cepillo los dientes. ________________________________________________ Cuando se levanta se lava la cara. 9 Also… When you have two verbs together, remember that only the first one is conjugated. (Check your notebook for more info) With reflexive verbs you can attach the reflexive pronoun before the conjugated verb or after the infinitive, as one word. Ex: Me quiero cepillar los dientes. Quiero cepillarme los dientes. ¿Te prefieres pintar las uñas o arreglar el pelo? ¿Prefieres pintarte las uñas o arreglarte el pelo? ¿Ana se va a cortar el pelo? ¿Ana va a cortarse el pelo? ¿Nos vamos a preparar para la fiesta? ¿Vamos a prepararnos para la fiesta?
