3 Tomando apuntes….  You should view the following PowerPoint presentation to learn the preterite forms of the verb “hacer” and “dar”.  Read through ALL the information and take notes on important information and conjugations of the verbs.  Complete the Practice exercise on the last slide to practice using the forms of these verbs in the preterite. Use previous handouts/notes and vocabulary list to help you.  You are responsible for learning these verb forms and how/when to use them. We will be practicing in class tomorrow, but you are expected to have learned them by that time.

4 DAR  The verb DAR means “to give.”  It is only irregular in the “yo” form. Other than that, it has regular -AR verb endings.

5 DAR (present tense) Yodoy Túdas Él Ellada Ud. Nos.damos Vos. dais Ellos Ellas dan Uds.

6 DAR  Because we often say to whom we give something, dar is usually used with the indirect object pronouns me, te, le, nos, and les.

7 DAR  Nuestro profesor nos da mucha tarea.  Nunca les doy nada a mis primos.

8 DAR  Mis abuelos van a darme un libro para mi cumpleaños.

9 DAR (past tense)  Dar is irregular in the preterite and has no accent marks.  To conjugat in the preterite, take off the –ar, and add the preterite endings for er/ir verbs – without accents!

10 DAR (preterite tense) Yodi Túdiste Él Elladio Ud. Nos.dimos Vos. disteis Ellos Ellasdieron Uds.

11 HACER  The verb hacer means “to do” or “to make”  In the present tense it’s forms are: hago, haces, hace, hacemos, hacéis, and hacen.

12 HACER  The preterite stem of HACER is hic-.  Most endings look like the er/ir preterite endings, except the ‘yo’ form, which ends in ‘e’.

13 HACER (preterite) Yohice Túhiciste Ud. Élhizo Ella Nosotros hicimos Vosotros hicisteis Uds. Ellos hicieron Ellas In the Ud./él/ella form, the -c- changes to a -z- so that it keeps the “s” sound: hizo.

14 Práctica  Escribe 3 frases usando “hacer” en el pretérito. Usa formas diferentes.  Escribe 3 frases usando “dar” en el pretérito. Usa formas diferentes.
