5 Here is a new set of conjugated verbs that don’t seem to fit the previous patterns: Notice the accent marks Over the “i” in all other forms. Over the “o” in the 3 rd singular. 6 Look at how the verb would be conjugated otherwise… Think about how you would pronounce these verbs… Similar to the sound issues with –car, -gar, & -zar, these i2Y verbs change the spelling to make it easier to say. creícreímosleíleímos creístecreísteisleísteleísteis creiócreieronleióleieron

7 New rule – ER & IR will change i  y in the third person preterite So now that you know why the y, how do you explain this present tense verb? 8 One more thing… Destruir is conjugated like oír, creer, and leer and other ER/IR verbs with a vowel before the preterite ending, EXCEPT that the tú, nosotros, and vosotros forms do not have accent marks.
