Ask the pupils to spend 3 or 4 minutes using their vocabulary books to come up with some phrases to describe the physical appearance and/or suggest their opinions about the characters of these celebrities. Encourage them to use opino que, creo que, pienso que and me parece que if talking about character. They can prepare notes in rough but take feedback orally after just a few minutes.

3 7 5 & 6 Ensure that pupils know who these are (Venus and Serena Williams and Enrique Iglesias) If the class is very able, try eliciting oral answers to the questions ‘ Es Serena mas alta que Venus?’ Es Enrique mas famoso que su padre? This will just serve to ‘pre-teach’ orally the comparatives that are to be covered this lesson.

Era el cantante español más famoso de los años 70, pero ahora soy más famoso que él. Tengo un hermano que se llama Julia y una hermana que se llama Chabalí. Soy más alto que mis hermanos. ¡Hola! Soy Shakira. Soy de Colombia en América del Sur. Mi cumpleaños es el dos de febrero y tengo 35 años. Soy más famosa en los Estados Unidos y en España que en Inglaterra. Canto en español y en inglés. Soy bastante alta (más alta que Kylie!) y tengo el pelo rubio y ondulado y los ojos marrones. Read the texts aloud. Then ask the pupils to then spend a few minutes reading them through out loud with a partner.

7 This is additional work for those groups who may need to move more quickly. This text contains a lot of additional language and could form the stimuls for some additional questions. Or you could just have them do the 3 comparative phrases at the bottom and find the information asked for on the blackboard icon shown. 8 1 2 3 4 Plenary activity – pupils refer to the vocabulary on pages 2 and 3 of and come up with 5 comparative phrases of their own.
