3 Uses of “A” a) To indicate the point toward which something is directed:  Volvieron a la casa. (They returned to home).  Fue a México. (He went to Mexico) b) After verbs ir, venir, when they are followed by an infinitive or by a noun indicating destination.  Voy a la playa. (I’m going to the beach)  Vino a verme. (He came to see me)

4 “A” c) After verbs of beginning, learning and teaching, when these are followed by an infinitive:  Ella comenzó a trabajar. (She began to work)  Ellos aprendieron a hablar francés. (They learned to speak French)  Me enseño a conducir. (He taught me to drive)

5 “A” d) As an equivalent of English on or in.  A tiempo. (on time)  A su llegada. (on her arrival)  Llegar a México. (to arrive in Mexico) e) Personal “a”  Le escribo una carta a María.

6 Uses of “DE” a)When you have to use the verb “ser”:  La casa es de Julio. (possesion)  El es de Venezuela. (origin)  Son las seis de la mañana. (time)  La casaca es de cuero. (material) b) To express cause or reason  Murió de cancer. (He died of cancer)  Esta loca de alegria. (She’s wild with joy)

7 “DE” d) To indicate profession or occupation.  Él trabaja de cocinero. ( He works as a cook).  Ella trabaja de abogada. (She works as a lawyer).

8 Uses of “EN” a) to indicate mode of transportation  Fuimos en avión. (We went by plane) b) to denote location  Estoy en la clase. (I’m in the class)  Estoy en casa. ( I’m at home)

9 Uses of “con” a)To express accompaniment.  Pedro quiere ir con Teresa.  Pedro quiere ir conmigo.  Pedro quiere ir contigo. b) Before certain nouns to form adverbial expressions of manner.  Conduce con cuidado  Hazlo con paciencia.
