Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others
Introducción. ¿Qué pensamos del servicio de cantar himnos? ¿Qué tan importante es? Es uno de los cinco actos de adorar a Dios. Introduction. What do we think of the service of singing hymns? How important is it? It is one of the five acts of worshipping God.

I. Efes. 5: ¿Citamos este texto sobre el cantar solamente para probar que no debemos usar instrumentos de música? I. Eph. 5: Do we quote this text about singing only to prove that we should not use instruments of music?

Pablo nombra el instrumento: “en vuestros corazones”. Por eso, usamos el instrumento escogido por Dios – el corazón. Paul names the instrument: “in your hearts.” Therefore, we use the instrument chosen by God – the heart.

“Ustedes no tienen música. No creen en la música”. Hay DOS clases de música: instrumen-tal y vocal. A. T.- las dos. N. T. – sólo vocal. “You don’t have music. You don’t believe in music.” There are TWO kinds of music: instru-mental and vocal. O. T. – both; N. T. only vocal.

¿Por qué cantar? Cantamos PALABRAS. Con música alaban y edifican de manera especial. La música enfatiza y realza (hace resaltar) las palabras. Why sing? We sing WORDS. With music they praise and edify in a special way. Music empha-sizes and enhances the words.

No llenos de vino sino del Espíritu. El vino pervierte la mente pero el Espíritu la ilumina. ¿Cómo canta la persona tomada? Not full of wine, but of the Spirit. Wine perverts the mind but the Spirit illuminates it. How does a person that is drinking sing?

II. Col. 3:16. Este texto es paralelo con Efes. 5:19. Es imposible estar lleno del Espíritu si la palabra de Cristo no habita abundantemente en nosotros. II. Col. 3:16. This text is parallel with Eph. 5:19. It is impossible to be filled with the Spirit if the word of Christ does not dwell abundantly in us.

Si estamos llenos del Espíritu porque la palabra mora en abundancia en nosotros, tendremos el deseo de alabar a Dios y enseñar y amonestar unos a otros, siempre dando gracias a Dios. If we are filled with the Spirit because the word dwells in abundance in us, we will have the desire to praise God and teach and admonish each other, always giving thanks to God.

Al cantar enseñamos muchas lecciones importantes y necesarias. Es un medio eficaz de enseñar. Por ejemplo, los números 1, 2, 4, 43, etc. When we sing we teach many important and necessary lessons. It’s an effective means of teaching. For example, numbers 1, 2, 4, 43, etc.

III. Alabar a Dios. Uno de los propósitos princi-pales del cantar es alabar a Dios. Salmo 100:2, “Servid al SEÑOR con alegría; venid ante El con cánticos de júbilo”. III. To praise God. One of the principal purposes of singing is to praise God. Ps. 100:2, “Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.”

Salmo 126:1-3, “Cuando el SEÑOR hizo volver a los cautivos de Sion, éramos como los que sueñan … nuestra lengua se llenó de alabanza. Grandes cosas ha hecho el SEÑOR con nosotros”. Psalm 126:1-3, “When the Lord caused the captives of Zion to return, we were as those who dream… our tongue was filled with praise. Great things the Lord has done for us.”

Salmo 146:2, “Alabaré al SEÑOR mientras yo viva; cantaré alabanzas a mi Dios mientras yo exista”. Psalm 146:2, “While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.”

Heb. 2:12, “Anunciaré a mis hermanos tu nombre; en medio de la congregación te alabaré”. Heb. 2:12, "I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You."

1 Crón. 6:31, “Estos son los que David estableció sobre el servicio del canto en la casa de Jehovah después que el arca había reposado allí”. 1 Chron. 6:31, “Now these are those whom David appointed over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after the ark rested there.”

Rom. 15:9 “…que las naciones glorifiquen a Dios por la misericordia, como está escrito: Por tanto, yo te confesaré entre las naciones, y cantaré a tu nombre”. Rom. 15:9, “…and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: "For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, And sing to Your name."

Himnos: Doxología…No. 3, “Oh, Padre, eterno Dios, alzamos nuestra voz en gratitud”; 8, Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al Espíritu Santo; 71, Santo, Santo, Santo, Señor Omnipotente”, etc. Hymns: Doxology… No. 3, “Oh, Father, eternal God, we raise our voice in gratitude”; 8, Glory to the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit”; 71, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty,” etc.

IV. DAR GRACIAS A DIOS. El meditar sobre cuántas cosas Dios ha hecho por nosotros produce el deseo de cantar loores a su nombre y darle gracias. IV. GIVE THANKS TO GOD. To meditate on how much God has done for us produces the desire to sing praises to His name and give Him thanks.

Salmo 5:11, “Pero alégrense todos los que en ti se refugian; para siempre canten con júbilo, porque tú los proteges; regocíjense en ti los que aman tu nombre”. Psalm 5:11, “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.”

Salmo 9:1, 2, “Te alabaré, oh Jehovah, con todo mi corazón; contaré todas tus maravillas. Me alegraré y me regocijaré en ti; cantaré a tu nombre, oh Altísimo”. Psalm 9:1, 2, “I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”

Siempre que lleguemos a este lugar para adorar a Dios, debemos llegar con el corazón lleno de gratitud y luego con alegría cantar los himnos. Every time we arrive at this place to worship God we should come with our heart full of gratitud and then with joy sing the hymns.

Aun en tiempos difíciles, en medio de pruebas severas, debemos recordar los muchos beneficios que recibimos de Dios y darle gracias en oración y en cantos. Even in difficult times, in the midst of severe trials, we should remember the many benefits that we receive from God and give Him thanks in prayer and in songs.

Salmo 57:4, “Mi vida está entre leones” pero “Te alabaré entre los pueblos, oh Señor; a ti cantaré salmos” (v. 7). ¿Hacemos esto? Psalm 57:4, “My soul is among lions”, but “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.” Do we do this?

Hech. 16:24, 25, “los metió (a Pablo y Silas) en el calabozo de más adentro y sujetó sus pies en el cepo. Como a medianoche, Pablo y Silas estaban orando y cantando himnos a Dios”. Acts 16:24, 25, “he put them (Paul and Silas) into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God.”

Jesús mismo. Mat. 26:30, después de instituir la cena del Señor y poquito antes de su experiencia en Getsemaní, “Y cuando hubieron cantado el himno, salieron al monte de los Olivos”. Jesus Himself. Matt. 26:30, after instituting the Lord’s Supper and just before His experience in Gethsemani, “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.”

Al recibir el perdón de Dios debemos regocijarnos y expresar nuestra gratitud en cantos. Sal. 51:14, siendo perdonado, “con regocijo cantará mi lengua tu justicia”. On receiving the pardon of God we should rejoice and express our gratitude in song. Ps. 51:14 being forgiven, “my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.”

V. CANTAR DE CORAZÓN. Sal. 138:1, “Te doy gracias con todo mi corazón; delante de los dioses te cantaré salmos”. V. SING FROM THE HEART. Ps. 138:1, “I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You.”

Juan 4:24, “adorar en espíritu y en verdad”; el culto debe ser bíblico (según la verdad) y debe ser “en espíritu” (de corazón). John 4:24, “worship in spirit and in truth”; worship should be Scriptural (according to the truth) and should be “in spirit” (from the heart).

Debemos pronunciar toda palabra del himno con sinceridad. Mat. 15:8, “Este pueblo me honra de labios, pero su corazón está lejos de mí”. We should pronounce every word of the hymn with sincerity. Matt. 15:8, “'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.”

Es posible cantar himnos sin adorar. Por ejemplo, cantar un himno muy conocido de memoria… ¡con los labios, sin activar el corazón! It is possible to sing hymns without worshipping. For example, sing a well known hymn from memory… with the lips, without activating the heart!

Podemos cantar el himno sin pensar en lo que estamos diciendo. La mente puede estar distraída (alguien entrando, saliendo), lo que pasó ayer, etc We can sing a hymn without thinking of what we are saying. The mind can be distracted (someone entering, leaving), what happened yesterday, etc.

“Feliz cantando alegre, yo vivo siempre aquí, Si El cuida de las aves, cuidará también de mí…” y seguir con los mismos afanes que producen úlceras y migrañas. Pero es mandamiento cantar! “I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me,” and continue with same worries that produce ulcers and migraines. But must sing

“Da la luz”… “Grato es decir la historia”… ¿De veras? ¿Nos gusta enseñar a otros? ¿A quién estamos enseñando? ¿Cuándo? “Send the light”… “I love to tell the story.” Really? We like to teach others? Whom are we teaching? When?

“Salvador a ti me rindo”… ¿De veras? ¿Dónde está la prueba? ¿En la ofrenda? ¿La asistencia domingo a las 5, el miércoles? ¿Puntualmente? “All to Jesus I surrender”… Really? Where is the proof? In the contribution? In attendance Sunday at 5, Wednesday? Punctually?

“Sagrado es el amor que nos ha unido aquí” – y después del servicio, seguir criticando a los otros miembros.. Domingo que viene, cantarlo otra vez. “Blest be the tie that binds”– and after services continue criticizing the other members. Next Sunday sing it again.

VI. ESTUDIAR LOS CANTOS. No debemos cantar lo que no entendemos, ni creemos, ni enseñamos. Por eso, debemos estudiar los himnos VI. STUDY THE HYMNS. We should not sing what we do not understand, nor believe, nor teach. Therefore, we should study the hymns.

Himnos son poesía. Son poemas. Hay lenguaje figurado. Sal. 51:5 es un salmo con lenguaje muy complicado. “En maldad he sido formado…” Hymns are poetry. They are poems. They use figurative language. Ps. 51:5 is a psalm with very complicated language. “I was brought forth in iniquity…”

1 Cor. 14:15, 16. Orar o cantar con el espíritu significa orar o cantar en lengua, y orar o cantar con el entendimiento es con interpretación. N0 hay edificación si no hay entendimiento. 1 Cor. 14:15, 16. Pray or sing with the spirit means pray or sing in a tongue, and pray or sing with the understanding means with interpretation. There is no edification if there is no understanding.

VII. El DIRECTOR DE CANTOS debe escoger himnos con cuidado, estudiarlos para cantarlos correctamente, la entonación, el tiempo, no demasiado alto, no demasiado bajo. VII. THE SONG LEADER should choose hymns carefully, study them to sing them correctly, the pitch, time, not too high, not too low.

El DIRIGE - la iglesia sigue, en este acto de culto, sea entonación correcta/incorrecta, sea tiempo correcto/incorrect, demasiado alto/bajo, etc. HE DIRECTS – the church follows, in this act of worship, if pitch is correct/incorrect, if time is correct/incorrect, too high/low, etc.

“Pero eso no importa”. ¿Lo que hacemos para la gloria de Dios? Decir que Dios acepta cualquier servicio mediocre, descuidado, sin preparación, equivale a decir que Dios acepta sobrantes. “But that doesn’t matter.” What we do for the glory of God? To say that God accepts any kind of service, mediocre, neglectful, without prepara-tion, is to say that God accepts left-overs.

VIII. LA IGLESIA DEBE ESTAR PREPARA-DA PARA CANTAR BIEN. No desvelar el sábado en la noche. Llegar, a tiempo, agradecido con Dios, listos para adorar en espíritu y verdad. VIII. THE CONGREGATION SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SING WELL. Not stay up late Sat. night. Attend, on time, grateful to God, ready to worship in spirit and truth.

Estar seguros que todos los niños canten y tengan Biblias, busquen textos durante el sermón y escuchar. No dormir, ni dibujar, ni jugar. Be sure that all the children sing and have Bibles to look up texts during the sermon and listen. Not sleep, not draw, not play.

La acústica aquí es buena (con cielo catedral se oye solamente a sí mismo), pero cuando hay pocos deben juntarse más. Ayuda mucho. The acoustics here are good (with cathedral ceiling, can only hear yourself), but when there are few we need to get closer together. It helps greatly.

Conclusión. Cantamos porque somos gente feliz. Sant. 5:13, “¿Está alguno alegre? ¡Que cante salmos!” ¿Qué cantamos cuando alegres? Conclusion. We sing because we are a happy people. James 5:13, “Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.” What do we sing when we are happy?

¿No le gusta cantar? ¿Qué piensa hacer en el cielo? Apoc. 14:1-3. You don’t like to sing? What do you plan to do in heaven? Rev. 14:1-3.
