2 ObjectiveBell work Students will be able to apply their knowledge of the present progressive to the imperfect progressive. When do we use the imperfect tense? Conjugate estar in the imperfect.

3 Used for: actions in past that lasted for extended time actions that were going on at a given time in sentences where a past event interrupts an ongoing action (use to present ongoing action)

4 Same basic formula as the Present Progressive Estar (in imperfect) + stem of the verb+ ando/ iendo ando is for ar verbs iendo is for er/ir the ando/iendo part is called the present participle OR the ing

5 Estar (in imperfect) + stem of the verb+ ando/ iendo Example (each used to happen or were happening at that moment in time): I was writing. Person= yo estaba( imperfect) stem= escribir–ir = escrib ir=iendo ANSWER: Yo estaba escribiendo.

6 Stem changes to make before the iendo is added e›i and o›u: servir: sirviendo pedir: pidiendo decir: diciendo dormir: durmiendo morir: muriendo poder: pudiendo Verbs that have Spelling changes in the iendo caer: cayendo creer: creyendo huir: huyendo ir: yendo influir: influyendo oír: oyendo traer: trayendo leer: leyendo These are only a few of them….so you can wrap your head around the concept.
